Anyone who travels a lot knows that the right gear can make all the difference on a trip. It can help with staying organized, fitting more stuff in your suitcase, and making travel more comfortable. Over the years we have used lots of travel gear. It’s interesting to me that we have similar travel styles, yet we like different gear for various reasons. So, here are a few of our favorites.
Teri’s Pick – CHESTER Carry-On Luggage/22″
Love love love this suitcase! It’s TSA approved, super lightweight and has a durable polycarbonate hardshell. The inside has built in compartments and a dual compression strap to maximize space. It is so smooth. It’s a little pricey, but totally worth it. I was able to get it on sale on amazon, so keep an eye out for deals.
Teri’s Pick – Travel Laptop Backpack
I have had so many backpacks over the years but have finally found my favorite. This bag can hold my laptop (up to 15.6 Inch), camera and any other items I want to carry on the plane. The padding on the back is very comfortable and its full of storage space. The USB charging port is very handy when in the airport. It’s also water resistant.
Ann’s Pick – TSA-Friendly Laptop Backpack
I have had some sort of SwissGear backpack for the last 20 years of traveling and have loved every one of them. You could probably say I’m a little biased :-). The SwissGear 6869 is the latest one I bought recently and I really like it. My favorite feature is that the laptop portion opens completely flat making it possible to go through airport security without taking your computer out of the bag, if there is no TSA Pre-Check line available. This backpack also has plenty of pockets and compartments for organizing your things on a trip. I have been able to fit two laptops, camera bag with a camera and two large lenses inside and still have it fit under the seat in front of me on the plane.
Teri’s Pick – Compression Packing Cubes
I was just introduced to packing cubes this last year. Packing cubes are great for keeping your suitcase organized. Compression packing cubes help with savings space. They have a double zipper and expand to approx. 3.75” and compress to approx. 1.8” It’s amazing how many shirts and pants I can fit into one of these.
Note from Ann: one downside of using compression cubes is that they can squish your clothes and wrinkle them, but they’re still worth it!
Ann’s Pick – MEIDI Magnetic Phone Car Mount
If you’re like me and always use your phone as GPS and music player on all roadtrips, this magnetic phone car mount is perfect travel gear for you. It’s compact, goes in the air vent, it’s easy to attach/detach the phone and the magnetic ring can be hidden under your phone case. There are many different brands of these – when I picked mine, I looked for thin metal ring for the phone and movable head design. The MEIDI brand came up with good reviews and I’ve been very happy with it so far.
Teri’s Pick – MoKo Cell Phone Stand
I don’t like the bulk of a phone case that has a stand so I use my MoKo cell phone stand while on the plane and in the hotel room. It’s very small so it doesn’t take up any space. It works for most smartphones and tablets and is available in multiple colors.
Teri’s Pick – Gear Beast Running Belt Fanny Pack Waist Bag
The stretch material of this waist bag fits my cellphone (iPhone 7 Plus) and keys, perfect for hiking. I really like that its not bulky and stretches to fit what you put in it.
Teri’s Pick – Travelon Anti-Theft Purse
Before a big Europe trip last year I bought my first Travelon Anti-Theft purse. It’s a cross body bag and has three compartments. It’s now my go to travel bag.
