New York City is a dream for food lovers. Any type of food you can imagine can be found here from all around the world. If you want to try a lot of different things I recommended going on a food tour. I have been on food tours in many cities but New York City is my favorite so far.  I recommend the Greenwich Village Food Tour and the Chelsea Market and the Highline Food Tour. Here is a list of some of the places I really enjoyed listed by neighborhood. 

Financial District

The Financial District is in lower Manhattan. It’s home to the 911 Memorial and Museum as well as Wall Street.

Pisillo Italian Panini – Pisillo only uses fresh, high quality Italian ingredients. The bread is delivered fresh every day from bakeries in Brooklyn and the cold cuts, condiments, and buffalo mozzarella are imported directly from Italy. I had the Pisillo Panini with Prosciutto Di Parma, Porchetta, Buffalo Mozz, Roasted Peppers, Arugula and Balsamic Dressing. This sandwich is huge! This picture is barely showing half the sandwich.

Baked by Melissa – Each bite size cupcake is huge on flavor even if they are small in size. 

O’Hara’s Restaurant and Pub – O’Hara’s is a traditional Irish Pub serving cold drinks and a full service food menu. The onion rings come with a sweet mustard sauce, definitely give them a try. 

Greenwich Village

Washington Square Park

Greenwich Village includes the iconic Washington Square Park and NYU creating a fusion of New Yorkers and students of all ages. When the Beat Generation started migrating to the village in the 50s, it was because of the low rent. Now, Greenwich Village houses four of the nation’s most expensive zip codes.

Artichoke Pizza – owned by two cousins and best friends, Artichoke Pizza has been featured on The Rachael Ray Show and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The pizza is very rich, tastes a lot like Artichoke dip. There is also a location on 14th street and Chelsey Market. 

Mamoun’s Falafel – is the original Falafel restaurant, they serve quality Middle Eastern Food. If you love it hot be sure to try to red sauce. I was very excited to discover there is a location in Dallas as well. 

Minetta Tavern – The Black Label Burger, a whopping $33, is made with prime dry-aged beef cuts, topped with caramelized onions and served on a brioche bun. It consistently lands on the “best burger” lists in NYC. 

Molly’s Cupcakes – Calling all sugar addicts, this place is for you. The story behind the name, Molly’s Cupcakes, is a lot of fun, check it out on their website.  Molly’s is most famous for the Peach Cobbler cupcake. It really does taste just like Peach Cobbler, incredible.

West Village

19th century townhouses line the cobblestone streets of the West Village. The area is home to a variety of restaurants and interesting shops. It’s one of the few areas in Manhattan that doesn’t follow the grid system.  

Faico’s Italian Supermarket –  I tried the classic arancini balls, gooey, cheesy rice enclosed in golden crunch crumb. 

Bleecker Street Pizza  I ate the Nonna Maria pizza. The story behind the owner is very interesting, check out the website to learn why. 

Bantam Bagel – Bantam Bagel’s was featured on ABC’s Shark Tank. They make an authentic mini New York City Bagel that is stuffed with cream cheese in 14 different flavors. Perfect for breakfast on the go.

Chelsey Market

The Oreo cookie was invented and manufactured in this building by the National Biscuit Company. The building is in the area of Manhattan known as the meat packing district. Today, Chelsey Market is an indoor food hall with more than 35 vendors. It attracts 6 million national and internationally visitors daily!

Dicksons Farmstand Meats – Neighborhood butcher offering artisan meats and house made charcuterie. The meat is sourced from small, family farms in upstate New York. No hormones, prophylactic antibiotics or animal by products are used. We had a delicious hot dog. You really can taste the difference.

Buon Italia – We had an amazing Crostata Di Verdure made with Zucchini, Onions, Eggs and Cheese. Similar to a French quiche. 

Sarabeths’s Bakery – Try the biscuits and jam. Sarabeth is known for her 200 year old recipe for Orange Apricot Marmalade. 

Tuck Shop – Delicious Australian meat buys.

Cappone’s Italian Specialties – Fresh Italian sandwiches. 

Apple Hills Creamery – my favorite is the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

Los Tacos No. 1 – The chicken tacos, guacamole and chips are good even by Texas standards.

  1. I have always wanted to take a culinary tour of New York City. That artichoke pizza looks amazing and I can only imagine the flavors. New York looks like it is the sort of city you could eat at a different ethnic restaurant every night of your trip and never repeat.

  2. So many wonderful things to taste in NYC. I would loooove to try the Artichoke Pizza. I am a huge fan of artichoke and have never seen a pizza that is dedicated specifically to artichokes.

  3. Totally agree that NYC is a dream for food lovers! It makes me miss living in LA because just like in LA, you can find ANY kind of food you want in NYC! I did the same Chelsea Market and Highline Food tour and loved it! Sarabeth’s was one of my faves! I wanted to go by Baked by Melissa on my last trip but ran out of time so I will get it next trip. I’m not a gigantic artichoke fan or I’d totally tackle that pizza!
